With apologies to Queen, the band: I want (like) to ride my bicycle, bicycle I want to ride my bike!
I will be riding, with my friend and teammate John Tomasino, his tandem bicycle in the 11th annual Cycle for Sight.
John has been involved in this ride from the beginning. When the ride began there were fewer than 50 cyclists but this year 200 are expected including approximately 14 tandem teams, including us on “Team Tomasino”.
John’s journey, much like others suffering from degenerative retinal diseases, has not been easy. Although the lights get dimmer hope continues.
What has kept John going is his desire to one day see his beautiful friends and family again. He and I want to be a part of the solution and help make this dream a reality.
John, the experienced “stoker” at the back, and I, the novice “captain” at the front of the tandem bike ought to reach speeds of up to 70 km/h down some of the Collingwood hills. That is a truly exhilarating experience and a minor reward for the pain and suffering we will experience going up those same hills!
In any case we are thrilled to be able to ride, raise some funds and assist people regain the gift of sight.
I sincerely thank you in advance for any contribution you can make to “Team Tomasino”and Fighting Blindness Canada! Alternatively, if you prefer to sponsor me with a cheque, please download the pledge sheet and submit your donation to Cycle for Sight.
