Vision is something that we often take for granted, yet right now, over 1 million Canadians are living with blinding eye diseases. There are currently no cures for these diseases and as vision fades, so too can hope.
I am inspired by the efforts and contributions to finding a cure from a family I consider an extension of my own, the Morrison's. Many reading this know of my lifelong best friend, Zach. This year, he will be leading our team on the tandem bike with his older brother Gavin, who is legally blind. Gav is a man who is truly admirable. From his early childhood, he has acted as an ambassador and voice for the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB). As his sight has deteriorated over the years, his class, demeanour, and attitude have remained consistently strong.
As well, Zach's mom Ann has dedicated her career to the foundation. Riding alongside their entire family while raising awareness and funding for blinding eye diseases is an opportunity I very much look forward to.
That is why I am participating in Cycle for Sight and raising money for the FFB.
I am also inspired by other riders, some who are partially-sighted, who have decided to take action and not sit idly around waiting for something to happen. I truly believe that the research funded by the FFB will lead to treatments and cures for vision loss.
The journey that I will be embarking on with Cycle for Sight is only a small trek compared to what faces those like Gav who live with vision loss every day. Help me provide hope by donating today at the link below.
I sincerely thank you in advance for any contribution you can make to my ride and the FFB! Love, Matt.
