On June 22, I will be participating in Cycle for Sight to raise much-needed funds for vision research. This cause is very close to my heart. The one-day ride supports Foundation Fighting Blindness Canada, which leads the fight against blindness by raising and directing funds to accelerate the development and availability of treatments and cures.
My involvement started with Gavin Morrison, now almost 27 yrs. old, who has lived with retinitis pigmentosa his whole life. This disease has stolen almost all his vision. Gavin constantly faces the uncertainty that his symptoms might change, worsen, or result in complete blindness. And despite this, he never complains.
In subsequent years, my mother developed macular degeneration, which greatly impaired her vision as a senior. Most recently, I underwent cataract surgery. With the research and advances in technology, I am thrilled to have perfect vision for the first time since I was a child. The impact of direct funding to vision research is enormous for those living with eye disease now and for future generations. For my ride, I am excited to be joining Gavin’s team, “The Crankers”. I hope you will support me in fundraising for this important cause.
I sincerely thank you in advance for any contribution you can make to my ride and the FFB! Alternatively, if you prefer to sponsor me with a cheque, please download the pledge sheet and submit your donation to Cycle for Sight.
